Upskills in Project Management
Apunipima Cape York Health Council is the lead agency representing the health needs of the people of Cape York and provides a range primary health care services to communities across the Cape with the aim of supporting Cape York communities own solutions to live long healthy lives, strengthening our culture and regaining our spirit.
Apunipima identified the need for more highly skilled project managers within their organisation, so through the Health and Community Services workforce Council (Workforce Council), Upskilled was able to secure Productivity Places Program (PPP) funding,
Staff at Apunipima participated in a certificate course in Project Management, delivered in a flexible format that Upskilled was able to customise for their particular needs. Upskilled delivered the course at a training venue suitable to them, over two training blocks of two and three days, meaning staff were able to fast-track the completion of their qualification without jeopardising their work and life commitments. Up-to-date course material, combined with excellent trainer support, allowed the course to be tailored for their particular business and industry.
The training that Apunipima experienced has already had a positive impact of the projects that they wish to roll out in the health sector. Projects that are now being implemented have improved scoping, and are completed on time and budget due to the skills that have acquired. The training has also assisted in improved communication between the project stakeholders.
Productivity Places Program (PPP) is a joint Commonwealth and Queensland Government Initiative brokered by Workforce Council.
“Having an IT background, I was already in touch with Project Management principles; however the course I was a part of with Upskilled expanded my knowledge with new tools that I am currently using. The trainer handled everything well, as he let the group come up with the ideas, and facilitated everything that was relevant and kept the other students on task.”
